What Is an Each-Way Bet?

An each-way bet is really two bets rolled into one ticket. Half of your stake backs the selection to win outright, and the other half backs it to place — to finish inside a set number of spots. Worked Example

That $20 outlay splits into $10 on the win and $10 on the place; the 1/4 fraction applied to the +2000 win price gives place odds of +500.

If the longshot wins outright, both halves of the bet land. The win part profits $200.00 on its $10 stake, and the place part profits $50.00 on its $10 stake, since a winner also counts as a placer at these terms. Together that’s a total profit of $250.00, and a total return — profit plus the original $20 outlay — of $270.00.
